Manchester United technical director Jason Wilcox is likely to receive a big budget to help Rúben Amorim fix his current Old Trafford squad this coming summer.

Manchester United are preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer as they look to generate significant funds for Rúben Amorim’s rebuild by maximising player sales.

With Amorim set to introduce a high-intensity tactical system, several current squad members are expected to depart, as they are not considered the right fit for his style of play. The club is bracing for a busy transfer window, with numerous first-team changes on the horizon.

Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are among those set to leave, with their contracts expiring at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, United are also looking to offload players currently out on loan, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, as none are believed to be part of Amorim’s long-term plans.

In addition, experienced figures such as Casemiro are likely to be moved on as part of the restructuring process, with the club focused on building a squad more aligned with Amorim’s philosophy and long-term vision.

Double decision to hand United fresh budget this summer

There have been a lot of questions surrounding how much United will be able to spend this summer, with some estimates putting United’s initial budget at as little as £20 million.

However, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, United are set to hand themselves “greater financial flexibility” through the sales of two players who may never play for the club again.

United as mentioned above, United have several players departing this summer once their contracts expire, with Eriksen, Lindelöf, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton all expected to depart.

Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo are also mentioned as players who could possibly depart, although co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already confirmed that the club will not sell any Academy players for purely financial reasons.

So, to give the club the maximum financial capabilities this coming window, United will reportedly look to offload both Rashford and Antony, who have both been previously dubbed as players United will look to sell this summer.

What could United’s budget look like this summer?

While initial budget estimates are low, sales could help United generate over £100 million this summer. Villa’s buy clause for Rashford is around £40 million, while Antony’s performances in La Liga may see him fetch a fee not too far from this, too.

Jadon Sancho’s pending transfer to Chelsea will secure the club around £25 million, while the multiple exits this summer will trim the wage bill, allowing Amorim and technical director Jason Wilcox further room to spend.

There have also been rumours that Paris St. Germain are interested in signing Mason Greenwood from Marseille this summer for around £60 million, and with United having a 50% sell-on fee for the winger, this is extra cash in the bank.

“There will be a budget for him and I’m not going to reveal that,” Ratcliffe last week when asked if Amorim will be backed by the club this summer.

“But obviously that budget changes depending upon who we may choose to sell because that will supplement the budget.”
