Erik ten Hag has several injury concerns as he prepares his Manchester United side to face Fulham in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Following a penalty shootout loss to Manchester City in the 2024 Community Shield, Manchester United are setting their sights on the first competitive match of the 2024/25 season.

After finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, Erik ten Hag is keen to propel his team back into the top four and secure a Champions League spot.

United will open their campaign on Friday with a home match against Fulham at Old Trafford, where three of ten Hag’s new signings are poised to make their debuts.

With the remainder of those who did not play in pre-season now having had over a week of training, the big question remaining is: will United see debuts for new signings Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussiar Mazraoui?

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag confirmed that both De Ligt and Mazraoui would be in the squad to face Fulham but admitted that the new signings might need extra time to adapt.

Regarding further injuries, the Dutchman explained that he believes Luke Shaw’s recent calf injury is not that serious.

“I think he will return in the short term, it doesn’t take long,” Ten Hag added. “We are looking forward, of course; Luke Shaw is a very important player for our team.

“He is massively important so we want to get him back as soon as possible but we can’t force this process.”

Ten Hag also admitted that he knows that his squad is not completely ready, but that he will make his team to the best of his abilities.

“The USA tour squad, and then we added the players at Euros and Copa America and now new signings, and we have to make a team from it. That team is not ready, but the league starts, and more managers have this problem. Still, we have some room, have some principles and we have to make a start. We can’t hide. We have to deal with it.”

Rasmus Højlund is not expected back until the middle of September following a hamstring injury sustained while in the USA, and both Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia could be out until at least November following respective foot and knee surgeries.

Victor Lindelöf missed the fixture against Man City, and his status has not been updated since. Ten Hag also confirmed that Harry Maguire would be in the squad on Friday.
