Man United outcast will only leave Old Trafford for “really good opportunity”, reveals Fabrizio Romano
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that one of Manchester United’s current outcasts will only leave Old Trafford for a “really good opportunity” this summer.
Manchester United are undergoing a significant summer overhaul, having already invested £139 million in acquisitions such as Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
The club has managed to offset some of these costs, accumulating over £55 million from player sales, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, among others.

As the transfer window draws to a close in under two weeks, United is aiming to enhance their midfield and potentially add a left-back. Manuel Ugarte is notably eager to secure a move from Paris Saint-Germain.
In pursuit of funding for these new signings, United is reportedly prepared to facilitate the exits of multiple players, but one player who will likely not leave is Victor Lindelöf.
Lindelöf has been linked with multiple clubs across the summer window, including Turkish sides Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. More recent links have appeared around Fiorentina and Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has explained that, as far as he is aware, none of these options were ever concrete, as the player is not desperate to leave United this summer.
“I’m always being told from players’ side and players’ camp that all these options were never something concrete or advanced,” he told The United Stand in a recent interview.
“Lindelöf is not desperate to leave Manchester United. It has to be for a big opportunity, a big, big club. He was on the list of Atletico Madrid, Inter and several other clubs in the last 2-3 years.
“For example, 6 months ago, 1 year ago, he had many of these possibilities, and United never wanted to let him go. Erik ten Hag always wanted to keep him in the squad. So now Lindelöf, with one year left on his contract, is not going to accept something that is not 100% what he really wants.
“Otherwise, in January, he can be free to sign with any club in the world. So this is why Lindelof will take his time. He is not desperate to leave.
“In case there is a good opportunity, an important club, he will consider that. Otherwise, I don’t think Lindelof will 100% leave United. It has to be a really good opportunity.”
Further, Romano was then asked if there was more potential that Lindelöf would instead depart for free next summer once his contract expires.
“I think that’s a really concrete possibility, yes,” he replied. “Unless a big club arrives in the final days, I think that’s a possibility, or maybe no general transfer window.”
Lindelöf was recently spotted using a crutch to support himself after he missed United’s last two fixtures, against Manchester City and Fulham, due to an apparent injury to his left leg.
Earlier this year, United activated the one-year extension in Lindelöf’s contract, meaning that from July 2025, the Sweden captain will be free to leave. As it stands, he will be able to negotiate with other clubs from 1 January.
