Manchester United are ‘definitely interested’ in £20m English wonderkid, ex-chief scout confirms
Manchester United are ‘definitely interested’ in signing a £20 million-rated English wonderkid to further improve the young talent in their ranks.
Things might not be going perfectly at Manchester United in terms of Premier League position and progress.
However, the current level of young talent at Carrington is frightening, both in the Academy and first-team squad.
Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo are among the first-team regulars who have extremely high potential.
Meanwhile, there is a plethora of talent in the youth system, including new signings such as Chido Obi-Martin and Sekou Kone.
INEOS are looking to further improve the young stars within the club, with the long-term aim of building a strong youth core within the first-team.
Brown confirms United’s interest in Rigg
United’s former chief scout, Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in the industry, told Footy Insider about the club’s interest in Sunderland starlet Chris Rigg.
The 17-year-old has been taking the Championship by storm, playing a crucial role in the midfield for the league leaders and Brown confirmed that United are sending scouts almost every game for the teenager.
“He’s [Rigg] definitely one they’re interested in. He fits the profile of a young player who they can help develop,” explained Brown. “They’ve had scouts watching him closely at Sunderland nearly every week this season.
“They will know how good he is and how far they think he can go in the game, and from what I’ve heard they’ve been very impressed. Man United have a very good relationship with Sunderland behind the scenes, too.
“There are a number of young players up and down the country that they’ve sent scouts to watch, but Rigg’s performances have been very, very impressive.
“I think they’ll keep an eye on his progress and then determine whether they think he’s ready for the step-up, but all signs suggest he will be capable.”
Rigg could be available for £20-30m
Rigg signed a three-year contract at Sunderland in the summer so it is understandable that the Championship side will be trying to keep him at all costs.
That’s their approach according to Footy Insider, who claim that Sunderland aren’t keen on sanctioning a departure for the talented player.
However, it was added that an offer in the region of £20-£30 million could be enough for one of several suitors to land him.
United are not alone in their appreciation of Rigg, with clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea also credited with interest in the midfielder.
