Man Utd coach tells Ruben Amorim that “outstanding” starlet is underrated, he hasn’t got first-team opportunities yet

Ruben Amorim has been told by one of Manchester United’s youth team coaches that an “outstanding” starlet has been underrated this season.

Manchester United have made a conscious effort in recent transfer windows to bolster their youth talent with exciting signings from within England and across the world.

Sekou Kone was added to the Under-21s squad in the summer, joining from Mali-based club Guidars FC while Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven have joined the club from Arsenal.

The Reds also made an impressive double signing when Darren Fletcher’s twin sons, Tyler and Jack, joined from rivals Manchester City in the summer of 2024.

Both midfield players like their father and were highly rated in the Academy setup at City but opted to move across town and it was Jack Fletcher who immediately stood out.

He was a key player for the treble-winning Under-18s side last term and has since managed to get opportunities in first-team training with Ruben Amorim’s squad and even make the bench on six occasions this term.

Binnion praises “outstanding” Tyler Fletcher

Tyler Fletcher had a more difficult start to life at United than his twin brother, with his first season at the club being defined by injuries.

He played just five games and started two of those, but has managed to push on massively this term and become one of the best performing players in the Academy.

The defensive midfielder has made 30 appearances across all competitions and has four goals and 12 assists in that time. One of those goals came on Friday night, with a wonderful turn and finish helping United beat Everton 4-2 in the Premier League 2 play-off round-of-16.

After that game, Under-21s boss Travis Binnion offered big praise to the 18-year-old, who has forced his way into his team after starting the season with the Under-18s. “He’s been outstanding,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“The fact is he gets into the best of the U21s on merit, like 100 per cent. He affects the game with the ball, the game without the ball and the game in the top third of the pitch.”

Binnion suggests Tyler Fletcher is underrated

Many fans have become accustomed to the name of Jack Fletcher but not so many with his twin brother Tyler, partly because of his lack of involvement last term.

Tyler, who represents Scotland at youth level, has also not been promoted to Amorim’s first-team for any games or training, something Binnion thinks has made him slightly underrated by those who support the club.

“He’s looking strong, fit and there’s loads more to come from him, he’s not done by a long stretch. So yeah, underrated? Maybe because he hasn’t been with the first-team, and maybe because there are players who are a bit more eye-catching in the forward positions who maybe have numbers to support,” he continued.

“But he’s not underrated by the staff, the club and the players. He’s excellent and like his brother [Jack], he’s got loads more to come, loads more physically to come.”

It seems like a first-team debut isn’t too far away for Jack, but if Tyler can keep up his impressive form, it might not be long for him either.
