Manchester United chiefs have been confused at claims made by in-form star Christian Eriksen during the international break.

Christian Eriksen is probably Manchester United‘s most in-form player during a period of struggle for Erik ten Hag‘s side.

The 32-year-old midfielder has three goals and three assists at club level this season, and against Switzerland on Tuesday evening, he recorded a further goal and assists for Denmark in a 2-2 draw.

However, with the player’s contract expiring in 2025, Eriksen told reporters last week that there have been no negotiations surrounding an extension, which has led him to believe he will be departing Old Trafford at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, this caused “plenty of confusion” within Manchester United, who were not aware that a conclusion had been made on his future.

Eriksen has proven himself to be very bold with his claims in the media – as was evident after the draw against FC Twente last month – but even this has taken them by surprise.

The report states that the club’s chiefs are relaxed about Eriksen’s contract situation, although if they want to keep the player, they would likely need to do so before the start of the season.

Once 2025 rolls over, Eriksen will enter the final six months of his contract. As such, he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any other club he wants to join as of the start of July.
