Manchester United are reportedly looking to take advantage of Chelsea’s current financial problems with a fresh bid for one of their academy stars.

Manchester United are looking to sign multiple centre-halves this summer to improve their defence after a poor season under Erik ten Hag.

The Old Trafford club conceded over eighty goals across all competitions in the last campaign, with injuries trashing the side’s chances of creating a stable and solid back four. Over 30 different defensive combinations were used across the 52 competitive ties in 2023/24.

With this in mind, INEOS have been assessing which defenders the club could bring in during the 2024 summer transfer window, and although names such as Jarrad Branthwaite and Jean-Clair Todibo have been the frontrunners, a new option has seemingly surfaced.

According to The Independent, United are now contemplating a move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to alleviate the defensive problems.

This has com Particularly following Raphael Varane’s exit, with the futures of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelöf also in the balance.

Chelsea are said to be willing to sell Chalobah, or alternatively Conor Gallagher, to balance their finances, valuing Chalobah at approximately £25 million.

Manchester United’s recent shift towards recruiting younger talents aligns with Chalobah’s profile, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to have introduced a policy that signings should be under the age of 25 where possible.

Chalobah, a versatile player capable of operating in multiple defensive positions, is seen as a viable option to strengthen United’s backline with multiple possible departures in the coming months.
