Manchester United refuse Bayern Munich transfer offer, explains Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United have refused Bayern Munich’s latest offer for Matthijs de Ligt, explains transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Manchester United are determined to strengthen their defence by signing multiple centre-backs this summer after a difficult season under Erik ten Hag, which saw them finish eighth in the Premier League and exit the Champions League by Christmas.
The team conceded over eighty goals in all competitions, frequently altering their defensive lineup due to injuries, resulting in more than 30 different combinations across 52 matches during the 2023/24 season.

After capturing the signing of 18-year-old sensation Leny Yoro, United are continuing their centre-back hunt by negotiating with Bayern Munich for Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt. However, their respective valuations remain far apart.
United already have an agreement on personal terms with the player himself, so negotiating a final fee with Bayern is the final hurdle, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has explained that United have refused Bayern’s latest offer of €50 million (42 million) to sign him.
Further, Romano explained that United want to include add-ons in the deal, while Bayern are asking for all the money to be a guaranteed payment.
“Man United have an agreement with Matthijs de Ligt, but outgoings are crucial, and at the moment, Man United will never agree to pay €50 million in one solution or with no add-ons,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“Man United always wanted to include add-ons as part of the negotiation with Bayern, and this is why the situation remains open. Man United are not paying €50m guaranteed so have to change the structure of the deal. Meanwhile, Matthijs de Ligt is waiting.”
The BBC have also added that negotiations with the two clubs for De Ligt “have failed to reach a positive conclusion”, but the transfer has not yet been ruled out. A compromise is still possible.
United fly to the USA on their pre-season tour on Wednesday, where Yoro will be part of the squad. Other new signing, Joshua Zirkzee, may join the team when they face Liverpool in early August, although this has not been confirmed.
