Erik ten Hag has one huge decision to make for the FA Cup final and Manchester United’s latest win against Fulham has showed him exactly what he must do.

The Reds earned their final win of the Premier League season with a 2-1 scoreline against The Cottagers. The three points secured their position as third in the table.

There was rotation in the lineup on Sunday, with six changes from United’s prior victory against Chelsea midweek. Fred replaced Eriksen in the centre of midfield alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

A brilliant performance saw the Brazilin play key roles in both of United’s goals. His parading run caused panic in the Fulham backline and led to the ball being poked towards the open Jadon Sancho to score the equaliser, whilst his pinpoint reverse pass in behind set Bruno Fernandes up to win the game.

Replaced on 66 minutes, Fred could be getting ready to start two consecutive games for the first time since March.

Ten Hag’s preferred midfield trio includes Eriksen, however, the Dane might not be the best choice against Pep Guardiola’s men in the final. He’s relatively lightweight defensively and his on-ball skillset will not be as valuable with the limited possession United are destined to have in the game.

Fred could be the perfect replacement. He started the clash against City last time out, as United won 2-1, although Eriksen still started that game as a number 10.

It’s less likely that United push Bruno Fernandes out to the right side this time round. He’s scored in back-to-back games and in solid form as the season approaches it’s conclusion.

The Dutch manager hasn’t shied away from making the big calls this term, and this could be the final one of the season. Fred’s energy could be crucial at Wembley, although, his hot-and-cold form is always a worry. You never really know which Fred you’re going to get.

Hopefully, the same one that ran the show against Fulham turns up next weekend.
