Man United face transfer setback as “all top clubs” scouting Premier League star
Manchester United target Joao Gomes has been scouted by “all the top clubs” in the Premier League, according to Fabrizio Romano
Dubbed by some reporters as Manchester United’s “Casemiro replacement,” Gomes has frequently been linked with a move to United of late.
Impressing for both Wolves, as well as recently with the Brazil national team, Gomes has stood out as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season.
Noted in the report, if the Red Devils are to pursue their interest in Gomes, then they will first have to move on several members of the current United squad.
According to Romano, with the futures of both Casemiro, as well as Christian Eriksen unclear, United will first have to address where their next step lies before deciding on potential recruits.
“It could be an interesting summer at Manchester United, and as usual we have some speculation about players leaving, and who could replace them,” Romano told CaughtOffside. “The latest is that Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is supposedly on their list as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen,” Romano said
“My information for the moment is that Gomes is being scouted by all [the] top clubs in Premier League, it’s something like 4-5 clubs; but Manchester United have not decided yet what they want to do in the midfield.
“It will be important to understand the board structure before and what’s going to happen with Casemiro and/or Eriksen to understand how Man United’s plan will evolve.
“So, while interest from top clubs in Gomes is there, at the moment it’s just scouting, and Man United have not decided their plans yet. It’s still early as having a new director in place will be crucial so they can finalise plans on who to target and how much to spend.”
At just 23 years old, Gomes has already made 36 Premier League appearances in the fifteen months since he signed for the club from Brazillian side Flamengo.
