Man United told to sign Brighton’s Evan Ferguson because of one reason
Louis Saha has told Manchester United to sign Brighton forward Evan Ferguson in the summer following his breakout season at the Amex Stadium.
Ferguson, 18, has scored seven goals for The Seagulls so far this season, including three in their FA Cup charge into the semi-final, where they will face United at Wembley.
He was recently praised by PSG’s Kylian Mbappe following Ireland’s 3-2 win against Latvia as he scored on his full debut for his country.
The teenager has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, who are looking to bring in a centre-forward in the summer transfer window.
Whilst more experienced strikers have also been tipped to join The Red Devils, such as Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, former United forward Saha has suggested that the acquisition of Ferguson would be a smart signing for the club, who must look towards the future when aiming for silverware.
“When you’re challenging for trophies, you also need to continue to focus on bringing young players through and getting them to a level where they’re going to shine and be capable of being one of the best players in the world,” he told Betfred.
“It’s hard to find an 18-year-old at the top level that’s playing and scoring as much as Evan has been doing.”
Historically, United are known for giving chances to young and talented players; so the potential signing of Ferguson would make sense. Yet, whether or not he’s ready to take responsibility as a consistent starter at Old Trafford is up for debate.
A more experienced forward signed alongside a young and hungry talent like the Irishman would be an ideal scenario for Erik ten Hag. Saha believes that Tottenham Hotspur’s Kane is the best option for the club.
“Harry Kane. If there were no limitations with budgets then I’d say Kylian Mbappé, but the realistic option for me is Harry Kane, 100%,” replied Saha when asked the best option to sign up front.
“He’s the best player in that position in the Premier League and he’s the best target in terms of a player who can easily adapt. There’s no debate about that.
“There are many talented players out there but the fact that Harry’s scored 204 Premier League goals already is proof that he could do fantastically at Manchester United in Erik ten Hag’s system. He’s certainly the player that would be top of my list.”
