Erik ten Hag has identified Chelsea’s Mason Mount as a primary target for Manchester United this summer.

Following an impressive debut campaign at Old Trafford, Ten Hag will be eager to improve his United squad further in the upcoming transfer window.

One of the players that he is reportedly keen on adding to his existing midfield is Mount, 24, who has had an underwhelming season for Chelsea. The Blues have slumped down to 13th in the Premier League and Mount has just five goal contributions in 24 league appearances.

Entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, there have been extensive reports about the possibility of the English midfielder moving on from his boyhood club this summer.

The latest information from The Daily Mail has revealed that United are launching their attempted swoop for the 24-year-old, who is considered as a primary target for Ten Hag. The Dutch boss wants to wrap up a deal quickly ahead of next season.

It was added that sources at Old Trafford have indicated that talks over a move for the Chelsea man are set to commence and that the club want to pay in the region of £55 million for the player. He is valued at £85 million by his current employers and United may be prepared to increase their initial valuation given Ten Hag’s determination to add him to his squad.

Mount’s poor season this term followed back-to-back Player of the Season campaigns for Chelsea, including the season in which The Blues secured their second-ever Champions League trophy. Mount assisted the only goal in the final of the competition against Manchester City.

After seeing the improvements from several players at Old Trafford under Ten Hag this term, the 52-year-old could be the one to tap into Mount’s talents again.

Yet, United are not the only team interested in the midfielder. The aforementioned report added that Arsenal hold interest in Mount, while Liverpool are actively pursuing a deal for the England international.

Mauricio Pochettino, who is set to take over at The Blues for next season, would also ideally prefer Mount to sign a new contract at Chelsea.
