Manchester United are keeping an eye on Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount’s status in order to improve on Erik ten Hag’s current midfield options.

According to a report from Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, Manchester United have added Chelsea‘s Mason Mount to their list of offensive midfield targets, including Jude Bellingham, who may prove too pricey if Erik Ten Hag spends most of his summer money on the move for Harry Kane

His contract in West London expires at the conclusion of the next season. The 24-year-old’s talks with Chelsea over a new deal have hit a brick wall, and the club could look to sell him.

From Mount’s perspective, he wants to garner similar wages to the club’s top earners, with Reece James recently given a deal worth up to £250,000 a week this season.

Mount’s £75,000-a-week wages make him one of the squad’s lowest earners, and he wants the hierarchy to show they value him. He has been voted player of the season by Chelsea fans in the past two seasons.

United aren’t the only team sniffing around a deal for Mount if negations with Chelsea don’t materialise into an agreeable conclusion; the English international is wanted by Liverpool as part of their midfield makeover, and he has also piqued the curiosity of Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Erik ten Hag’s side is seeking midfield recruitment to compete with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Fred, and Bruno Fernandes, with recent rumours saying the United boss pinpoints his midfield as an area of improvement.

The recruitment of Casemiro last summer has had a transformational impact on a midfield once seen as the weak point of the side under Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Ralf Rangnick.

The club hopes a younger, more progressive player next to the Brazilian will aid in enhancing their ability to dominate their opposition to an elite level.

Frenkie de Jong has been heavily touted, but the Dutchman has repeatedly reiterated that he is settled at his current club, Barcelona.

As mentioned earlier, Jude Bellingham is another target of United, but he is seen as one of the most coveted players on the market and will attract interest from clubs across the globe.

Mount would provide a sensible option, both financially and technically.
