In an open interview this week, one Manchester United star suggested that an Old Trafford exit is on the cards this summer.

The Reds played five pre-season games over the last month and are now closing in on the new Premier League campaign.

Erik ten Hag’s squad still needs changes, with signings and departures expected in the coming weeks ahead of the transfer deadline.

One potential departure seems to be 21-year-old midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, who spent the second half of last season on an unsuccessful loan at Sevilla.

The Tunisian made just six appearances for the La Liga side and struggled to make an impact in the minimal game time he received.

Hannibal looked impressive in several appearances for United in the first half of the season, particularly away against Burnley in his only Premier League start. But it was decided that he would get more time on the pitch away from Old Trafford.

Now, an exit could be on the cards for the player this month, and he appears to be open to leaving the club, either on loan or permanently.

“As a footballer, I just want to play and show myself,” he told The National. “Every player will say the same. I’m tired of sitting on a bench watching others play.

“Last season was OK when I was at United, but I felt I could have had a little bit more game time after the Brighton game when I scored. As a player you always want more, so I decided to go on loan to Sevilla. I experienced a lot of things there.

“It didn’t go well, but I feel like I learned a lot and that I’m more mature. I can feel that around the United players now.”

Hannibal has watched his age-mates like Anthony Elanga and Teden Mengi make the brave decision to leave United and join other English clubs. Both players are now consistent features for Nottingham Forest and Luton Town, respectively.

The United midfielder added: “I was close with Anthony Elanga and Teden Mengi. I’ve seen them leave the club and succeed as Premier League players, and I’m proud of them. They needed to play every week like I do, but it’s harder to do it at United.”
