Man United star puts in sensational international display as Erik ten Hag decision proven correct – 67 touches, 4 tackles won
One Manchester United star put in a sensational international display this weekend as Erik ten Hag’s decision for the player is proven correct.
The Reds have had a difficult start to the season in the Premier League, winning just one of their opening three games.
Erik ten Hag’s side must improve once the international break is over, where many United players excel with their nations.
Joshua Zirkzee scored his first goal for the Netherlands, while Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire both impressed for England against Ireland. Diogo Dalot also scored for Portugal last week from a Bruno Fernandes assist.
One player who really stood out for his display was Noussair Mazraoui, who was signed from Bayern Munich in the summer.
Mazraoui’s sensational performance
Mazroaui started for Morocco in their AFCON qualifier against Gabon. They ended up winning the game 4-1, meaning that they top their group after the opening fixtures.
The United defender played 90 minutes and put in a sensational performance at right-back. He completed 45 out of 49 passes, boasting a 92 per cent pass accuracy.
He also showed a solid defensive performance, managing to complete all of his four attempted tackles and six of his seven ground duels. The 26-year-old also made two interceptions.
With a chance created and three completed long passes on top of that, Mazroaui put in an extremely solid performance for his country.
Ten Hag’s decision proven correct
It already seems that swapping Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who would’ve been out of contract in the summer, for Mazraoui was a good decision from the club.
But it also seems like Ten Hag made the right decision by starting Mazraoui in his more comfortable position to start the season and moving Diogo Dalot to the left side.
While we all know that the Moroccan can play on the other defensive flank, allowing him to bed into the Premier League in his most comfortable position was a simple yet smart decision from Ten Hag.
Dalot has already played on the left for the club and is familiar with how that position works in the Premier League, which has allowed Mazraoui to adapt comfortably.
While United’s start to the season has been far from perfect, Mazraoui has started the season well and continued that form with his country. He will be hoping to prove himself further when club football returns.
