Atletico Madrid have adjusted their demands for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag looks at signing Portuguese forward Joao Felix on loan this month.

The United boss is looking to strengthen the side’s forward line after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo before the World Cup. Wout Weghorst is another who is linked with an Old Trafford move.

According to The Mirror, the Spanish clubs have changed the demands that they set to United originally, which exceeded £18 million for a six-month loan and no buy option.

Now, Atletico are demanding a £9.5 million loan fee and a commitment to buy the forward for £70.5 million after a fallout with Diogo Simeone has left him free to leave the Madrid-based club.

Ten Hag’s United are one of the frontrunners for the signature of Felix, who has stagnated since his move from Benfica in 2019.

Jorge Mendes, agent of Felix, met with Atletico’s CEO Miguel Angel Gil on Thursday to present United’s opening offer of a straight loan worth 3m and a commitment to cover the player’s wages during his time at Old Trafford.

This was refused by the Spanish club and they now want a response to the new terms by the middle of next week after United face Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

Importantly, the report also adds that United are understood to have the first option on Felix and will be given 48 hours to match any offer presented by another club. Arsenal are reportedly in the race for the forward after Gabriel Jesus fell to injury at the World Cup.

The addition of Felix would be great for United, who are desperate for quality depth in their forward line. He might not have excelled at the Wanda Metropolitano but the high levels of talent were most recently shown on the world stage in Qatar in the last months.

Ten Hag has helped reignite Marcus Rashford’s career after a torrid campaign last term. Felix could be hoping that he gets a similar impact under the Dutchman should he join.
