Manchester United have received a new update on Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, who is reported to be Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s preferred target on the right wing.

At United, in recent years, they have struggled to recruit smartly or strongly on that right flank.

Big-money signings for Jadon Sancho and Antony in recent years have not been successful.

Alejandro Garnacho has played well there this season but playing 30 consecutive games has shown to have an impact on the teenager’s performances at points. He also seems to prefer his play from the left side.

Olise has been linked as a major target for the summer window as INEOS look to make their print on the squad at Old Trafford.

Prior reports had stated that the winger preferred a move to United over Chelsea, who were also interested in signing him last summer.

However, fresh comments from transfer expert David Ornstein hmay be concerning to United and Ratcliffe, with suggestions that Olise would only leave for a team in the Champions League.

United were knocked out of the competition in the group stage this season and is extremely unlikely to finish in the position to qualify for Europe’s elite competition next term.

“If Olise leaves Crystal Palace in the upcoming window, I expect it would only be for one of the small number of most prominent Champions League clubs,” wrote Ornstein in his latest question-and-answer post.

“He is said to be an intelligent and thoughtful player who knows exactly what level he can reach and will be clear in deciding if, where and when it is right for him to move.

“Like with his previous contract, there is thought to be a release clause in the fresh terms he signed after the Chelsea saga. So clubs will have a decent idea of what they need to do to get him.

“To my knowledge, there have been no meaningful developments so far but obviously there’s a good chance that changes in the coming weeks and months.”
