Man United Predicted XI vs Charlton Athletic: Erik ten Hag to include Zidane Iqbal in rotated Carabao Cup side

Erik ten Hag will be looking to rotate his team against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday as Manchester United look to progress to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The manager will not want to underestimate the League One opposition, but with a busy upcoming period, rotation in the starting XI will be key.

Whilst David de Gea has been a mainstay in the side we could see Jack Butland take to the field for the first time since joining the club last week.

In front of him, Ten Hag will want to remain strong. Both Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot are part of United’s strongest backline, but also need minutes. Dalot has recovered from an injury and Martinez returned late after World Cup glory.

With Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane playing important roles since club football resumed, they could both be rested ahead of the Manchester Derby. Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia would take their places in the side.

In midfield, United will remain strong with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro starting the game to ensure dominance in central areas. However, Zidane Iqbal could make his first start for the club ahead of Bruno Fernandes, who is suspended for the tie, after the youngster impressed during December friendlies.

Alejandro Garnacho will come into the frontline after winning a last-minute penalty against Everton in the FA Cup win. Marcus Rashford would move up front, giving Anthony Martial important rest and allowing the Englishman the opportunity to build on his impressive goalscoring form, whilst Antony will continue from the right wing.

The team would give several squad players important minutes whilst also building the sharpness of the likes of Antony, Martinez and Dalot.

Ten Hag will need to use his entire squad during the upcoming period and will hope to have striker Wout Weghorst through the door as soon as possible.
