Manchester United identify four potential midfield signings, including £20m wildcard
Manchester United have identified four potential midfield signings, including a £20 million wildcard, after moving away from a deal for Manuel Ugarte.
The Reds have secured two signings this summer—Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee—and Ugarte was anticipated to join them as a new United player.
However, the highly reliable David Ornstein has revealed that the Premier League team is now redirecting their focus from Ugarte to other midfield options.
Furthermore, the only scenario in which the Old Trafford side would reconsider is if the French club reduces their £51 million asking price for the 23-year-old.
According to Sky Sports, the Reds are doing work on a number of other midfielders after moving away from a deal for Ugarte.
This including Youssouf Fofana, Martin Zubimendi, Sofyan Amrabat and Sander Berge. But squad space will need to be created for United to go into the market for a midfielder.
Burnley have reportedly placed a £20 million price tag on Berge, who has previously been linked to an Old Trafford move when Ole Gunnar Solskjær was in charge.
Jose Mourinho’s Fenebache are interested in the 26-year-old, but United could also move forward with a potential deal.
The Athletic has explained that the Norwegian is under consideration at Old Trafford and the Championship club are prepared to sell the midfielder.
It was added that United’s officials have made contact with the player’s camp.
Berge made 37 Premier League appearances for Burnley last term, and while he would not be the most exciting signing, it could be a good value-for-money deal if United would rather wait to sign a big-money midfielder next summer.
