Manchester United set Antony asking price after Dan Ashworth meeting for surprise target
Manchester United have reportedly set an asking price for winger Antony after Dan Ashworth held meetings in relation to a surprise target.
Antony, 24, joined the Reds in the summer of 2022 for a staggering £85 million from Ajax. He scored just once in the Premier League last season and has been far from a success since the move.
It has been reported by TEAMtalk that United are now willing to sell Antony for around £25 million after accepting that they grossly overpaid for the winger in 2022.
Yet, the report reiterated recent comments from the player’s agent, stating that the Brazilian remains very happy at Old Trafford and that United see his lengthy contract as a ‘major issue’ in their attempts to sell him.
The report adds that Besiktas are ‘very keen’ on the player but are unable to afford his current wages and are unconvinced that they can lure him to the Turkish league.
Saudi Pro League clubs have also been looking at the 24-year-old but are not planning to make any offers to United this summer.
Though, should United be able to sell the winger, the report concluded that they would think about reinvesting that money into a potential deal for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
Sporting director Dan Ashworth has spoken with Chalobah’s agents to understand the possibility of a deal. The centre-back was not included in Chelsea’s pre-season tour squad and is set to depart Stamford Bridge.
He can play in the centre of defence but has also been used as a fullback, which could help United’s depth in the backline.
It still seems unlikely that a permanent exit for Antony will materialise this summer, but a potential loan deal could be an option. That might also boost the player’s resale value if he has a good season.
Otherwise, it is expected that the Brazilian will be the backup to the likes of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho on the right wing at Old Trafford.
