Man United receive £40 million transfer blow after exit decision made

Manchester United are looking to sell Harry Maguire in the summer transfer window as they aim to build funds for signings.

Maguire, 30, joined United in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City for a record £80 million fee.

While the Englishman has had ups and downs at Old Trafford, he was one of few consistent performers last term.

That was following a summer window where he looked certain to leave the club. But now, it appears likely that will actually happen.

TalkSPORT has reported that United are willing to sell Maguire this summer and that the centre-back has admirers in Italy.

INEOS are working on a tight budget this summer and after a solid campaign, they will be thinking that Maguire could commend a respectable fee.

Last summer, West Ham were extremely interested in the defender, but a move broke down despite the two clubs agreeing on a £30 million fee for him.

That kind of fee could now be very attractive to those at United, but the latest transfer confirmation makes it seem an unlikely deal.

West Ham confirmed the signing of Wolves centre-back Max Kilman this weekend for a total package of £40 million on a seven-year contract.

This deal essentially rules The Hammers out of any race for Maguire this summer, considering United will be looking for around the same amount they agreed with West Ham last summer.

If they want Maguire to leave this summer, it might now be more difficult to find a suitor who would be willing to spend around £30 million on the defender.
