John Stones admits what every England fan is thinking about Harry Maguire and EURO 2024
John Stones has admitted what every England fan has been thinking surrounding Harry Maguire and the 2024 European Championships.
Despite topping their group so far this summer, Gareth Southgate‘s England have been so far underwhelming at the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
Manchester United duo Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo are in the 26-man squad for the tournament, but they have barely seen any minutes. Mainoo has played a grand total of nine across the two games, and Shaw has yet to feature due to injury.

Harry Maguire, a mainstay in the England squad since 2018, would have been in the squad if not for multiple injury problems towards the end of last season.
Although his replacement, Marc Guehi, has been one of the side’s best performers, Maguire’s presence around the squad is sorely missed, with the type of mentality the 31-year-old brings essential to the England set-up.
John Stones, who would have partnered with Maguire during fixtures, has explained that the group massively miss a player like him but has no doubts that the United centre-half will be cheering on from home.
“I’d say for the first week after the squad got announced, I spoke to him,” the Manchester City defender told talkSPORT. “I was extremely gutted for him personally and from my point of view from him being around in big tournaments previously. Not just for me, for the lads.
“To have had that injury and not being able to be fully fit to come away is such a difficult position to be in. I sympathise with how he’s feeling with that. He did his best to try and be here but I am sure he will be at home watching every game and supporting us.
“He sent a good luck message as he does. I hope he is coping alright. He is probably screaming at the TV out of anger, happiness and all the emotions that come with it. He is missed by the group massively, and I hope to see him back soon.”
Maguire is a huge miss for England during the 2024 European Championships, both on and off the field – something many fans have been thinking as the side go into their final group game. They will face Slovenia on Tuesday evening.
