Maguire, Malacia, Mainoo: Manchester United injury news vs Newcastle (Premier League)
Rúben Amorim has multiple players absent as Manchester United prepare to face Newcastle United in the Premier League in their final game of 2024.
Manchester United are set to welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Monday evening for their final match of 2024, with Rúben Amorim aiming to guide his side out of 14th place in the Premier League.
Three successive defeats to Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have put Amorim under significant pressure, with poor performances drawing sharp criticism from fans and pundits alike.
The team are still adjusting to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, but their inability to defend set pieces has been a glaring weakness throughout the past month.
As the festive fixtures continue, United have an opportunity to end the year on a positive note with a home victory. However, Newcastle, buoyed by a dominant 3-0 win over Aston Villa earlier in the week, will be determined to spoil the occasion.
United’s injury news vs Newcastle
Amorim will be without three players due to injury as he considers who to select against Newcsatle.
Mason Mount is feared to be out until around March 2025, while Victor Lindelöf remains out after an injury against Spurs, with little said on his current condition.
Luke Shaw is also not expected to play a part in the squad at Old Trafford, although it’s thought he may return sometime in the new year.
There were also some minor worries surrounding Kobbie Mainoo. He was spotted limping away from the recent 2-0 loss against Wolves, but he has been included in the matchday squad against Newcastle.
Due to suspension, the 39-year-old will also be without a further two players, Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte.
Fernandes received two yellow cards against Wolves, resulting in a red card and one-match ban, while Ugarte picked up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season, also resulting in a one-game ban.
With Fernandes out, Amorim must pick a new captain for the fixture. When asked whether Harry Maguire would fill that role, he replied: “You will have to wait until the game and see the captain.”
Although Tyrell Malacia and Marcus Rashford both missed out on the squad against Wolves, neither player is suffering from an injury and both remain available for selection.
Newcastle injury latest
Newcastle are dealing with several injury setbacks. Centre-back Jamaal Lascelles is out until February with an ACL injury, while goalkeeper Nick Pope is sidelined with a knee issue.
Striker Callum Wilson has suffered a recovery setback and won’t be available, and Emil Krafth is also out after breaking his collarbone. Sven Botman has returned to training following his ACL injury, though he remains a doubt for selection.
On a brighter note for Eddie Howe’s team, midfielder Joelinton, who was initially a doubt for their match against Villa, not only started the game but also scored their third goal, confirming his full fitness ahead of their clash with United.
