Maguire, Mainoo, Shaw – Manchester United injury news vs Lyon (Europa League)

Rúben Amorim has several injuries to contend with as Manchester United travel to face Olympique Lyonnais in the Europa League quarter-final on Thursday evening.

Manchester United are turning their attention back to the Europa League as they cross the English Channel to face Olympique Lyonnais in the quarter-final of the competition on Thursday evening.

Last time out in the competition’s knockout stages, Rúben Amorim’s men demolished Spanish opposition Real Sociedad 5-2 across two legs to secure their place in the last eight of the competition.

Meanwhile, Lyon dismantled the Romanian side FCSB 7-1 across their two Round of 16 legs to face United. Amorim’s men remain the only unbeaten side in the competition thus far.

However, after back-to-back fixtures without a goal against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City in the Premier League, the United head coach will be hoping his side can rediscover their scoring touch later this week.

United’s latest injury news

The most pressing update United fans are waiting for regarding injury news is about Harry Maguire, who was substituted just 58 minutes into the Manchester Derby on Sunday afternoon. Thankfully, Amorim confirmed this was not due to injury but instead just managing the player’s minutes.

Harry Maguire just had 60 minutes allowed from the medical department to play, so he’s fit and ready to go. So we need to be careful on this,” Amorim told the media.

Speaking to MUTV, the 40-year-old coach added: “Just managing [him]. After 60 minutes, 55 minutes is a risk and we cannot risk any player in this moment.”

Further, the Portugese boss admitted that although Mason Mount is completely available for selection, he is remaining cautious regarding reintegrating Kobbie Mainoo to the squad.

“Mason Mount is ready to do whatever we want,” Amorim explained. “Of course, we have to look at the minutes. Kobbie Mainoo is training with us, we want to be careful, again, with our players, but maybe he’s going to be in our squad.”

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw could see his first minutes in Red since December. He was an unused substitute after being included in the matchday squad against City, but could make an appearance off the bench against Lyon.

Who else is injured for United?

Elsewhere, United remain without Lisandro Martínez and Amad. The former is currently expected to return in November following an ACL injury, while the club are confident that the latter will return before the end of the season.

“He’s doing quite well,” Amorim said of Amad last week. “We hope to have him before the season is finished. We’ll see, but he’s anxious to play, so we are waiting for him.”

Ayden Heaven and Jonny Evans are still out injured and are not expected to return against Lyon, but both players are thought to be progressing well in their recoveries and are likely to return later this month.

Chido Obi will not be available for selection as he was not registered to compete in the Europa League knockout stages by the club.
