“He’s doing quite well” – Rúben Amorim issues fresh Amad Manchester United injury update ahead of Manchester Derby

Rúben Amorim has issued an update on Amad as Manchester United prepare to face Man City in a crunch Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United returned to action earlier this week after the March international break, and Rúben Amorim is now preparing for a huge showdown with Manchester City at Old Trafford.

United were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night. Despite the defeat and ongoing struggles in front of goal, there were encouraging signs in the team’s improved possession and overall structure under Amorim.

The 40-year-old will be hoping his side can build on that foundation and find their finishing touch when they host Pep Guardiola’s City on Sunday in the Manchester Derby.

With Europa League action looming, Amorim is also looking ahead to next Thursday’s away tie against Olympique Lyonnais in France.

Amorim issues fresh Amad injury update

Ahead of the Manchester derby, Amorim was asked on Friday in his press conference about the fitness of many players, with the head coach expecting a few returns in the next couple of weeks.

“I think Kobbie [Mainoo] is returning to training, so we’ll see and assess for this game already,” said the head coach. “Of course, he cannot play a full game, he’s a long time without training.

“I think Matta [de Ligt] has an issue. He has something during the game [at Forest] and we have to assess. I think the rest is normal.”

However, speaking separately to United’s official media channels, the 40-year-old also issued an update on Amad, explaining that the player is doing well with respect to his recovery and is anxious to start playing again.

“He’s doing quite well,” Amorim said of Amad. “We hope to have him before the season is finished. We’ll see, but he’s anxious to play, so we are waiting for him.”

When can Amad return to action?

Although Amorim’s update is a positive one, Amad will not be playing against Man City this weekend.

However, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano, the star player is “progressing well” with respect to his rehabilitation and could return for United in May.

It was also explained by the transfer specialist that the player is actually ahead of his original schedule, and that there is a “real chance” he will play again before the season ends.

In May, United play a number of tough fixtures in the Premier League such as against Chelsea and Aston Villa – although it is Europe that they will be looking at.

Should United move past Lyon in the quarter-finals, the semi-finals of the Europa League are set to take place on 1 May and 8 May, with United facing either Rangers or Athletic Bilbao.

Should they progress past this, the final will kick off on 21 May, just before the end of the league season, and Amad may be fully recovered in time for the final.
