Manchester United return to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening to face an unpredicted Chelsea side in the Premier League.

The Reds are coming off the back of an embarrassing performance against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, where the scoreline of a 1-0 loss did not truly represent the game.

Now, they come up against Mauricio Pochettino’s team, who sit 10th in the Premier League table.

The Stamford Bridge side have had some good performances, which displayed progression under their new manager, but also some dreadful showings. They most recently won against Brighton 3-2 despite being down to 10 men for the entire second half.

Coming into the game, Erik ten Hag’s squad will likely look fairly similar to the one which travelled to face The Geordies.

In terms of injuries, Mason Mount appears the closest to a return after Ten Hag confirmed he was training on the grass last week, but he is still likely to be unavailable.

The likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are all ruled out of the clash, with the former two players unlikely to appear for the team until 2024.

Amad Diallo is nearing a return to full fitness and is expected to rejoin first-team training in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Jonny Evans is also out of action at the moment.

Academy duo Hannibal Mejbri and Dan Gore were not involved in the squad against Newcastle, with Donny van de Beek preferred. They could both be in contention after the poor display on the weekend.

Bruno Fernandes is likely to start and captain the side against The Blues but will need to be careful as he is a booking away from a one-game suspension in domestic competition.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be without midfielder Conor Gallagher after he was sent off in their latest win against Brighton but will be glad to see the returns of both Reece James and Marc Cucurella from their respective suspensions.

Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka are all out with injuries, while Malo Gusto, Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku may all be available for the clash at Old Trafford.
