La Liga release full statement on Jude Bellingham alleged remark towards Mason Greenwood
La Liga are investigating an alleged remark from Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham to Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood on loan at Getafe.
The alleged incident happened during the La Liga clash between the two teams on Thursday afternoon. Real Madrid won the game 2-0.
After Bellingham tackled Greenwood, video footage from TV broadcasters emerged on social media during the game.
Bellingham had allegedly called Greenwood a ‘r*pist” following the challenge. The Getafe loanee was suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 after accusations of domestic violence emerged on social media.
La Liga have since confirmed that Getafe have submitted a complaint in relation to the incident and that they have requested an expert lip reader to aid their investigation.
A La Liga statement read: “Getafe yesterday transferred the complaint to the La Liga match director and La Liga, as it always does on these occasions, has requested an expert report on lip reading to investigate the matter and act on the basis of what can be proven beyond doubt (by the lip reader).”
The Athletic have added that Getafe sources insist that Greenwood doesn’t want the matter to escalate.
At the beginning of the season, Getafe manager José Bordalás was forced to apologise after originally suggesting that Bellingham had a role to play in Greenwood’s move to Spain.
“Greenwood is friends with Bellingham, and he advised him to come to the Spanish league,” stated Bordalás.
The Real Madrid midfielder’s camp was said to be ‘unhappy’ with the comments, and the manager apologised for the comment shortly afterwards.
“I wanted to clear up a misunderstanding there has been. I said that Mason Greenwood came to Getafe because he had spoken to Bellingham,” Bordalás later clarified.
“It has been clarified to me that this was not the case. I apologise. Mason arrived in a different way. It was our interest, and they offered him to me, and we were very interested. I just wanted to clarify that, it was not a bad intention.”
