José Bordalás has apologised after claiming that Jude Bellingham played a role in Mason Greenwood’s signing for Getafe from Manchester United.

Mason Greenwood signed for Getafe CF on loan from Manchester United after it was confirmed that Greenwood would never play for the club again due to domestic abuse allegations from January 2022.

With the forward leaving Erik ten Hag‘s squad on loan, he made his debut for Getafe during their 3-2 win over CA Osasuna, coming on as a 77th-minute substitute.

“Greenwood is friends with Bellingham, and he advised him to come to the Spanish league,” Bordalás previously claimed in relation to the Englishman’s signing.

However, it has been revealed by The Athletic that after the comments spread on social media, Bellingham’s entourage were said to be ‘unhappy’ with the claim, and Bordalás has been forced to apologise for the error.

“I wanted to clear up a misunderstanding there has been. I said that Mason Greenwood came to Getafe because he had spoken to Bellingham,” he said.

“It has been clarified to me that this was not the case. I apologise. Mason arrived in a different way. It was our interest and they offered him to me and we were very interested. I just wanted to clarify that, it was not a bad intention.”

Getafe are also said to have reached out to Jude Bellingham in relation to the comments.
