“What I’d rather do…” Sir Jim Ratcliffe addresses Man United signing Kylian Mbappe
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has addressed Manchester United’s chances of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer as INEOS prepare the next set of transfer targets.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are approaching their first summer transfer window in charge of Manchester United‘s transfer targets as they look to rebuild Erik ten Hag‘s squad in their vision.
A lot has been made of United’s transfer spending in the last decade, with the club pulling out hundreds of millions on players who have ultimately fallen short of expectations at Old Trafford.

Kylian Mbappe is probably the hottest talent on the planet right now and has been heavily linked to Real Madrid for a number of seasons. The Frenchman is a key figure at PSG and is often used in discussions of which elite players clubs could sign each window.
Ratcliffe, however, when asked if he would want United to sign the superstar, said he would rather find the “next Mbappe” than spend money on signing the player himself.
“What I would rather do, I’d rather find the next Mbappe, rather than spend a fortune just trying to buy success,” Ratlicffe said on the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast.
“It’s not, you know, it’s not that clever, is it, buying Mbappe, in a way? And, you know, anybody, anyone could figure that one out. But what’s much more challenging is to find the next Mbappé, or the next (Jude) Bellingham, or the next Roy Keane.”
This summer, it is expected that United may need to operate under a strict budget, with lavish spending over the last few seasons meaning FFP restrictions are tightening.
It is expected that several high-profile players, such as Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho, will leave this summer to raise funds.
