Kobbie Mainoo reveals ‘great advice’ Raphaël Varane told him before Man United departure
Kobbie Mainoo has revealed the ‘great advice’ he received from Raphaël Varane before the defender’s Manchester United departure.
Varane, 31, left United at the end of last season following the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. He spent three seasons at Old Trafford after joining from Real Madrid.
The four-time Champions League winner was an important part of the United squad and reminded many of his ability at Wembley last weekend.
There were difficulties, such as the injuries sustained during his time with the club. However, Varane’s knowledge and experience would’ve certainly rubbed off on some of the young talent at Carrington.
Kobbie Mainoo excelled during his first season in the United first-team, ending the campaign by scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final. He is now expected to head to Germany with England to compete in the European Championships.
Interestingly, the teenager has already started making changes to his routine behind the scenes after receiving some important advice from Varane.
Speaking to Dazed during his first cover shoot after signing a deal with Nike, Mainoo said: “Raphaël told me one thing, which was great advice: the best investment you make is investing in your body.
“Obviously, as a footballer, your body is your instrument; it’s what you use. So I took that on board.”
Mainoo played 33 games last season despite making his first appearance in November. He will likely be playing more football before the start of next season.
In their detailed article about the interview with the United youngster, Dazen suggested that Mainoo takes time after training to recover and rest.
“Obviously, I see physios outside of the club to keep myself fresh, but most of the time, I just like to chill,” he added.
