Kobbie Mainoo will have a serious chance to impress Erik ten Hag during Manchester United’s pre-season tour in the United States this summer.

The teenage midfielder is highly rated by the Dutch manager and has appeared three times in the first team this season.

However, as United enter the business end of the season, it seems unlikely that Mainoo is afforded many other chances to play in the first team before the end of the campaign. The Reds are still fighting on three different fronts.

During the international break, Mainoo was involved in the England U19’s squad for their European Championship qualifiers. He played in all three games against Hungary, Iceland and Turkey.

The Three Lions finished second place in their group, which means that they will not be taking part in the eight-team summer finals which takes part between July 3 and July 16.

In turn, it means that Mainoo will be available to travel to the United States with Man United for their pre-season tour. The exact dates of the tour are yet to be confirmed but United travelled to Bangkok at the beginning of July last year.

It could be a serious chance for the 17-year-old to get more minutes alongside first-team regulars ahead of next season.

Ten Hag will also be provided with more time to assess the development of the youngster and what kind of role he’d be able to occupy in the coming season.

Alejandro Garnacho was introduced into the first team briefly under Ralf Rangnick last term before emerging as a consistent option this season for Ten Hag before his injury. Mainoo could potentially have a similar progression.

United have confirmed that they will be facing National League side Wrexham in San Diego on July 25 during their tour. The Welsh side, owned by American celebrities Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are expected to be promoted to League Two.

The remaining fixtures for the tour are yet to be confirmed by the club. They will likely be released in the coming weeks and months.
