West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has accidentally told Erik ten Hag his side’s biggest weakness as Manchester United travel to the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United are gearing up to face West Ham in their return to Premier League action this weekend.

A recent 2-1 win over Brentford did little to lift United beyond 12th in the league table, and Erik ten Hag faces increasing pressure to improve results.

After a 1-1 Europa League draw against Fenerbahce, United have a short two-day turnaround before they meet West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

This will be Ten Hag’s ninth league game of the season, where United’s record so far includes three wins, three losses, and two draws.

West Ham’s biggest weakness

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui conducted a pre-match press conference with local reporters ahead of the tie. He was asked about the team’s defensive record.

Acrod their opening eight Premier League games, West Ham have conceded 15 goals, which has landed them 15th in the league table.

In answering the question, Lopetegui accidentally let slip that he feels this is the area in which his team are the least consistent, and therefore an area Ten Hag can exploit.

“Always, the defensive work is about all the team,” the Spaniard said. “Sometimes in your individual defensive work, you can do better, too, but it’s up to the team.

“We talk a lot about this and I think that the team have to be more consistent, for sure, trying to be in the same way and to be aggressive in the opposition box as well, so this is our work. I am sure that we are going to achieve this level, for sure.

“In the meantime, we have to put the focus in the next challenge, and that is Manchester United.”

Ten Hag must exploit this

While United have not scored many goals so far this campaign, they have created plenty of chances for their attacking players—all that needs to change is that they must finish the chances off.

With Rasmus Højlund back in the side and Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho finding their form, this trip to London represents the perfect chance to chalk some goals on the scoreboard.

Three points would do wonders for the players as they attempt to build momentum ahead of a busy winter schedule.
