Manchester United adjust Erik ten Hag stance, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new objectives explained
Manchester United have adjusted their stance on Erik ten Hag this season, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new objectives for the manager explained.
Erik ten Hag’s side have had a stuttering start to the new campaign. Manchester United have won one game in their last seven fixtures.
INEOS spoke to several managers in the summer, including new England boss Thomas Tuchel before concluding that Ten Hag was the best man to lead the club forward.
However, with pressure rising for the Dutchman, there are beginning to be several names reported as potential replacements, with Xavi joining the likes of Rúben Amorim and Edin Terzic on the list.
Ten Hag’s objectives explained
According to GiveMeSport, Ten Hag has objectives this season but they don’t include winning a trophy or finishing in the top four, as United’s success has usually been based on.
Instead, the report detailed that the manager must avoid high-profile dramas and ensure United are competitive in all competitions.
It was explained that United’s hierarchy, led by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, want Ten Hag to succeed and are keen to avoid the disruption and financial burden of making a mid-season managerial change.
Reports have suggested that sacking the Dutchman could cost upwards of £15 million, while many managerial targets are also currently in jobs and it would take more money to pry someone away from their current role.
Ten Hag getting something previous Man Utd coaches never got
The time and patience being shown with Ten Hag currently is something that no United manager post-Sir Alex Ferguson has received.
It is also something that United fans have cried out for during the Glazer ownership, but you also have to ensure that you’re doing it with the right man.
Ten Hag has shown positives and negatives in his third season in charge so far. Being 12th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League does not look great.
While the United bosses are clearly in favour of giving him a good chance this season, improvements will need to be made soon – That is clear.
