What Sir Alex Ferguson predicted every January at Manchester United almost came true in 2012/13
Sir Alex Ferguson has explained what he predicted mid-way through every Premier League season as manager at Manchester United.
Manchester United were an absolute powerhouse in the Premier League under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning 13 times under the Scottish legend.
However, it wasn’t always done the easy way at Old Trafford, sometimes, they would not be far ahead at Christmas but managed to end the season in a killer’s fashion.
One of the more comfortable Premier League victories came during Ferguson’s final season in charge where they won the title in style, 11 points ahead of second-place Manchester City.
What Sir Alex Ferguson predicted every Premier League season
Ferguson has explained that each and every season at United, he would sit down at the beginning of January and predict where he nearest opposition could drop points in the title race.
“Always, when I got to January, what I did every January 1st every year, [looking at] our opponents games and where I think points can be won or lost,” he told TNT Sports.
Of course, with months remaining in the season, not even Sir Alex would be able to predict the end result perfectly. But he did come very close in his final season in charge.
“He added: “And I put us down to win by 10 points [in 2012/13], I did. The team was playing really well and I thought we’d do that.
“But I think it was 11 points, so they did really well, the team played really well.”
Title win led by fantastic Van Persie
It was a season where Robin van Persie wrote himself into the United history books with his stellar campaign in front of goal.
After signing from Arsenal in the summer, the Flying Dutchman netted 26 goals in the Premier League that season and 30 in all competitions.
“Van Persie was fantastic [that season],” added Ferguson. “His goals, his thrust in the game, his power and confidence.”
