Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has made a strong statement following defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.

Ruben Amorim and his side fell to an unfortunate 4-3 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night which knocked them out of the Carabao Cup.

Manchester United dominated most of the game but were punished by several defensive errors, finding themselves 3-0 down shortly after half-time.

After showing great resilience, the Reds pulled the scoreline back to 3-2 with goals from substitutes Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo.

It looked inevitable that United would find an equaliser until a freak goal in the final minutes from Son Heung-min straight from a corner kick went over Altay Bayındır.

Jonny Evans managed to score a third for United in stoppage time but it was not enough for the Reds to progress, even if there were positives to take from the game.

Zirkzee makes strong statement after Spurs defeat

Zirkzee would have been pleased with his impact on the night, with the Dutchman scoring his third goal under Amorim.

The 23-year-old has had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford but is prepared to work hard and ‘deliver’ for the team.

Asked by club media what the reaction in the dressing room was after defeat to Spurs, Zirkzee simply explained that the team knows they need to produce on the pitch.

Then, the forward made a confident statement by claiming that United will ‘make sure’ they win against Bournemouth on the weekend.

“Not much, we just got in but I think we all know that we just have to deliver,” said Zirkzee after the game. “We always have to deliver.

“We’re just gonna come out on Sunday and make sure we get three points.”

Bournemouth will be a tough test for United

United are getting better each week as the team gets used to Amorim’s approach, but Bournemouth will certainly not be an easy opposition.

The Cherries currently sit sixth in the Premier League table after a great start to the season under Andoni Iraola.

However, Amorim’s side are only three points behind them and would leapfrog them with a win at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Zirkzee and the team appear to be confident heading into the game despite the defeat and a win could really help United’s standings in the league.
