The shirt number that Joshua Zirkzee wants to wear at Manchester United has been revealed ahead of his signing at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are set to make Joshua Zirkzee their first signing under the new INEOS era at Old Trafford. Multiple reports confirm that the Dutch striker will join Erik ten Hag‘s squad this summer.
Zirkzee arrived in Manchester on Thursday evening and is completing his medical on Friday. Following the medical, he will sign his official documents and become the first player to join the club since Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7% stake.

The striker will sign a five-year contract, earning approximately £96,000 a week. He is anticipated to compete with Rasmus Højlund for the forward position while also providing support across the front line.
Shirt Number
Zirkzee is undergoing his medical tests at Carrington on Friday morning ahead of confirmation of his signing, with the club expected to make an announcement soon.
While many fans are excited to hear United announce their first summer transfer, some are even more eager to learn what shirt number Zirkzee will be handed for the 2024/25 season.
Since making his professional debut for Bayern Munich in December 2019, Zirkzee has worn many numbers, but his most recent has been the No. 9 for Bologna, which he has requested again.
According to Florian Plettenberg, United’s No. 9 shirt is the one that Zirkzee hopes to wear at his new club.
Previous players
The shirt was most recently worn by Anthony Martial, who departed the club at the end of last month following the expiry of his contract. Prior to Martial, it was worn by Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Other notable names include Andy Cole, Dimitar Berbatov, and Carlos Teves, while Paul Scholes also held the number during the 1995/96 season.
