Technical director Jason Wilcox has helped convince one Manchester United transfer target of a move to Old Trafford this summer.

United have already made two signings in the summer transfer window but are keen to do more business as the new Premier League season approaches.

Chido Obi Martin, one of the most promising talents in Arsenal’s academy, looks to have departed the London club after failing to agree a scholarship deal at the Emirates.

Academy Scoop first reported that Obi Martin had visited Carrington to discuss a potential move to United this summer.

Prominent journalists, including David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, have echoed these reports. The Manchester Evening News stated that United is optimistic about finalising a deal for the 16-year-old.

Romano has further revealed that United are actively working to complete the transfer soon, with Obi Martin expected to make his decision within the coming days.

This would see United sign two of the most exciting youngsters in Europe this summer after Leny Yoro agreed to join last week.

Jason Wilcox was the academy director at Manchester City before moving to Southampton last year. He joined United in April to become the club’s new technical director.

The former Blackburn player helped elevate the academy at City, and it appears that he had a prominent role in convincing Obi Martin to join the Old Trafford club.

A report from All Nigeria Soccer, as per United In Focus, reads: “Everything points to the fact that Obi Martin will join Manchester United as Jason Wilcox, their technical director, is using his strong ties to the striker’s camp to facilitate the transfer.”

Obi Martin would likely join the club’s under-18s or under-21s side before attempting to impress first-team manager Erik ten Hag with his performances. He scored 32 goals for Arsenal’s under-18s side last term.

Since joining the club in 2022, Ten Hag has provided the platform for the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo to thrive in the first-team environment.
