Jarrd Branthwaite has sent a clear message to the Everton leadership as Manchester United’s current stance on the defender has been explained.

The Reds have signed 18-year-old talent Leny Yoro to boost their defensive unit, but another addition is expected before the end of the transfer window.

Raphaël Varane and Willy Kambwala have departed that club, while the futures of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf remain uncertain.

At one point this summer, Jarrad Branthwaite was United’s main target. They made two offers to Everton for the talented centre-back, both of which were rejected.

It has been explained by MailSport that United have ‘stepped back’ from transfer talks for the 22-year-old defender after Dan Ashworth’s last conversation with his Everton counterpart Kevin Thelwell.

David Ornstein revealed last week that the Premier League outfit have told United they will not be selling for under £70 million despite their ownership deal falling through.

With United currently out of contention for Branthwaite, it appears that Everton are planning to strengthen their position and reward the player with a new contract at Goodison Park.

The aforementioned report added that while the player still has three years left on his £70,000-a-week contract, Everton are ready to offer new terms to reflect his importance.

Importantly, it was revealed that Branthwaite is not open to extending his stay at Everton unless they offer the same amount that United had offered him before being priced out of a move.

Branthwaite had agreed personal terms with the Old Trafford club on a £160,000-per-week contract, and that is exactly what he is expecting to be offered by Everton. Otherwise, he does not intend to extend his stay.

It appears that United are not planning to go back in for Branthwaite this summer, but there is every chance that they are in a stronger position to sign the defender next year.

That would be made even stronger should Branthwaite refuse an Everton extension.
