Jadon Sancho looks set for yet another transfer, just six months after leaving Manchester United to join Aston Villa on loan for the season.
Jadon Sancho’s career at Manchester United has been disappointing for all parties involved, with the Englishman currently sitting on the bench at Aston Villa after his deadline-day loan move in the summer of 2025.
After signing for £73m from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, United fans were optimistic about the prospect of a young, skilful, highly rated English winger coming to Old Trafford to play under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Sancho never turned out to be the star he was expected to be.
The winger totalled 12 goals in two seasons at United before he was sent back to Dortmund on the first of a series of loan spells. It was at Dortmund where Sancho found more confidence as he became a Champions League runner-up.
However, Sancho then spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Chelsea, where he became a UEFA Conference League champion. Despite featuring 41 times for the Blues, Chelsea decided not to activate the buy option, instead sending Sancho back to Old Trafford whilst paying United an extra £5m as they could not agree on a permanent wage for Sancho.
Now, Sancho finds himself at Aston Villa, where he is spending the majority of his time on the bench. A new move looks on the cards for the 25-year-old as his time at Villa may come to an abrupt end.
Roma re-emerge as potential club for Sancho in January
With Sancho’s exit seeming inevitable in the summer of 2025 Roma appeared as a potential club for the winger as they searched for attacking depth. He seemed like a potential option in a league that would be more suited to him as he looked to gain stability again.
The move ultimately failed as personal terms were not agreed upon between the two parties. However, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb, with injuries proving to be a major problem in Rome, a move for Sancho could be bizarrely back on the cards.
In the summer, Roma opted to sign Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey instead of the 25-year-old to play right forward. Still, with injuries to the Jamaican, Paolo Dybala, Evan Ferguson, and Artem Dovbyk, Roma look bare in their attacking line as they seek to regain depth.
Other potential options for forwards for the Italian giants include Joshua Zirkzee and Mathys Tel, who have not been guaranteed starters in the Premier League this season, so a move to Italy could be ideal for them.
Sancho could benefit from a new league
Sancho’s natural talent is undeniable, as shown by his time in Germany and his success with Chelsea in Europe last season. The winger gathered six goal contributions in eight games in the Conference League, including a goal in the final against Real Betis, where he faced fellow United loanee, Antony.
The style of Italian football could be far more suited to Sancho, with a lot more time and space to create on the ball.

There is a track record of United players leaving for the Serie A and proving to look far stronger with the likes of Scott McTominay, Romelu Lukaku and Rasmus Højlund all thriving at Napoli.
A similar story could occur with Sancho, who would surely want to revive his career as he continues to sit on the Villa bench while his teammates, Emiliano Buendia, Morgan Rogers and Donyell Malen look to be in great form.
