Jadon Sancho responds to Borussia Dortmund agreement as Man Utd teammate signs new deal
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is on the verge of completing his return to Borussia Dortmund on loan after an agreement was made between the two clubs.
Sancho, 23, made the move to Old Trafford from the German club in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £73 million but his time at United has been far from a success.
After lighting up the Bundesliga – scoring 38 goals and registering 51 assists in just 104 appearances – Sancho’s impact for the Reds in the Premier League has been minimal.
He has nine goals and six assists in 51 Premier League appearances for United and has not played for the club since his statement claiming that manager Erik ten Hag was using him as a “scapegoat” after he was dropped from the squad to face Arsenal at the beginning of September 2023.
Ten Hag told reporters that Sancho’s training performance was the reason for his exclusion, something which the English winger said was “completely untrue”.
“I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into,” added Sancho in the now-deleted statement.
Now, Sancho is set to return to Dortmund on a loan deal, without an option to buy, for the rest of the season. Fabrizio Romano posted his well-known ‘Here We Go’ phrase for the deal on Wednesday afternoon.
Sancho has since liked the post from Romano on social media platform X, formally known as Twitter, which also mentioned that he would be travelling for his medical on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, the club have managed to tie down Joe Hugill to a new two-year deal following his impressive strides in the academy.
The striker has scored eight goals and registered one assist in 12 appearances for the youth sides and even appeared on the first-team bench on four occasions but is yet to make his competitive debut.
Hugill also impressed on the pre-season tour last summer and according to the Manchester Evening News, United are now finalising a mid-season loan deal for the centre-forward as he looks to gain more senior experience in the second half of the season.
The 20-year-old joined the club from Sunderland in 2020 for a £300,000 fee. He was part of the 2022 FA Youth Cup winning squad.
