“It was clear…” – Benjamin Sesko reveals what convinced him to reject Newcastle and join Manchester United

Benjamin Sesko has revealed what convinced him to reject a move to Newcastle in favour of Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United made a strong start to the summer transfer window by securing Matheus Cunha from Wolves on day one, followed by the arrival of promising young defender Diego Leon.

After lengthy talks, the club also managed to land Bryan Mbeumo, with all three new signings being part of Ruben Amorim’s squad on their U.S. tour.

Now, the club have announced that they have signed RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, a deal that completes United’s revamped attacking lineup ahead of the new season.

The Reds have signed Sesko for an initial £66 million and the striker is expected to be unveiled at Old Trafford before the game against Fiorentina on Saturday afternoon.

Sesko reveals what convinced him to reject Newcastle and join United

Sesko, 22, has been on United’s radar for several years now and they attempted to sign him in the past but were unable to do so.

They still had competition for his signature this summer, with Newcastle being extremely keen to sign him as a replacement for Alexander Isak.

Eddie Howe’s team had an agreement in place with Leipzig but Sekso ultimately decided to reject them and join United instead. Reports even suggest that Newcastle were offering a higher wage.

After being announced as a new United player, Sesko revealed that it was conversations over the project at Old Trafford which made it clear to him that the club are prepared to return to the top.

“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future,” the Slovenian international explained.

“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.

“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.”

Wilcox pleased with United signings desire

Once again, United have secured a signing with the player desperate to join the project at the club. Cunha and Mbeumo were both the exact same.

This is something that Amorim wants, as he looks to build an improved culture at Carrington, and Jason Wilcox has echoed that sentiment.

“The desire that all of our new signings have shown to join the club this summer highlights the appeal and stature of Manchester United, as we continue to build and develop a team capable of challenging for the biggest honours,” the technical director said.

This also isn’t simply down to the lure of United pulling players in – even if it does have some impact – but it is also due to the project being presented to these players by those in charge.

With Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko all completely on board, United fans will be hoping they can make a difference this season.
