“I’m glad…” – Man United fans respond to Erik ten Hag’s surprise comment on Jadon Sancho
Manchester United supporters have responded to Erik ten Hag’s surprising parting comment to Jadon Sancho after his loan transfer was confirmed.
Sancho, 23, completed his six-month move to Dortmund on Thursday afternoon after a spell of over four months on the sidelines.
The winger was dropped from the United squad to face Arsenal and Ten Hag explained that the reason was due to the training performance of the £73 million signing.
“On his performance on training, we didn’t select him,” replied Ten Hag when asked why Sancho wasn’t involved. “You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. You can make choices in the front line, so in this game, he wasn’t selected.
Sancho released a public statement in response to his manager’s words. The 23-year-old said that it was ‘completely untrue’ and he was being made a ‘scapegoat’ at Old Trafford.
He has not played since 26 August due to not apologising to the manager for the post and has now moved to his former club, Dortmund, to try and reignite his career.
Perhaps surprisingly, when asked about the move in his latest press conference, Ten Hag only had good words to say about the 23-year-old.
“I hope he’s doing well, so I wish him the best of luck. That’s it. I hope he’s doing well, and he’ll be a success,” he said.
This has caused mixed responses from United supporters online. Some believe that the comments are sincere, whilst others are wary of the relationship between player and manager.
“I’m glad he wish him well,” one fan wrote, whilst another said: “Ten hag still loves him man.”
Another fan said: “Not from the bottom of his heart he is saying these words. I can see the displeasure on his face.”
