Ian Wright: Bryan Mbeumo would go to another level at Manchester United but one thing surprises me

Ian Wright has suggested that Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo would go to another level at Manchester United and explained one thing about the attacker which surprises him.

Manchester United have received approval to begin negotiations with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, after the player made it clear that his preferred destination is Old Trafford—despite interest from the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal.

After a disappointing season, it was evident that United needed to strengthen their attack, and they’ve moved swiftly to address the issue.

On the first day of the transfer window, the club announced the arrival of Matheus Cunha on a five-year contract, with the Brazilian expected to feature on the left flank in Ruben Amorim’s system.

However, United’s business is far from done. The club remains eager to add more attacking options, with Mbeumo now emerging as a top target.

The Brentford star was one of the Premier League’s standout performers last season, scoring 20 goals, and manager Thomas Frank has made it clear the club would consider selling for the right price. With Mbeumo expressing a strong desire to join United, formal talks are expected to begin soon.

Wright praises Mbeumo after United developments

We’ve already started to see some angry Newcastle fans due to Mbeumo’s decision to snub their club but Ian Wright has provided an honest assessment of the situation.

The ex-Arsenal forward believes that the Cameroon international will not bow down to the pressure at Old Trafford and instead go to the next level.

He also explained how he is surprised how young Mbeumo still is, although he’s even younger than Wright believes as he said the player is 26 – he turns that age in August though.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, he said: “When you saw it, like obviously Ivan Toney took all the plaudits at Brentford, but when you watched him then and watched the, you’re looking at it now and it’s more consistent, and you think, yeah.

“It’s the only thing I’m surprised about with him, is that he’s only 26.

“You know something, if he goes to United I think that he’s somebody that, if he gets in the moments that he’s had for Brentford, for United, he will then realise where he is. Because he goes to another level with the attention from United.”

Mbeumo doesn’t only bring goals

United fans are certainly confident about Mbeumo’s quality, as they are for Cunha. These two players have already been shining in the Premier League.

However, no one is expecting Mbeumo to match his 20-goal haul from last campaign, especially since he’s unlikely to be on penalties next term. But there is confidence that he will prove quality in several different areas.

Whether it is work-rate, creating or being able to run with the ball at his feet, the potential signing will offer many things to the Reds and like Wright mentioned, he is only 26 (25) and still has room to grow.

Reports are suggesting that Brentford aren’t going to provide easy negotiations but United should be able to get this deal done soon.
