Amad Diallo has made an honest vow when discussing ambitions in this Manchester United team going forward.

Amad, 21, returned from an extended injury layout at the end of last year when he appeared from the bench during United’s defeat against Nottingham Forest.

He has not since returned to the pitch following a short illness and multiple appearances on the bench.

Many supporters have criticised Erik ten Hag for using Antony ahead of the Ivorian when looking at his substitutes in recent fixtures, especially considering Amad’s impact when he returned against Forest.

Amad is keen to get those match experiences back underneath his belt after a long time out of action.

“The first thing is getting match fit again; that’s the next step in terms of regaining my match rhythm,” the 21-year-old told club reporters when asked about his ambitions in the first team. “I’ll keep training hard, and the coach will decide what will happen.”

Antony has been displaced from the team by Alejandro Garnacho on the right-wing. The Argentine has had four goals in five games since moving to the position, and that could be the blueprint for Amad to rise within the ranks.

When provided with more opportunities, Amad could further move Antony aside if he manages to impress again and then look to challenge Garnacho for the spot on that flank.

But right now, the young wide player is determined to show Ten Hag his talents on the training pitch at Carrington and help the team in any way possible with their tough Premier League campaign before he can show that he deserves to be a starter.

“Yes, I have ambitions,” added Amad. “I’m going to keep working hard in training, help the team battle against everyone and earn my place.”
