Peter Schmeichel and Gary Neville have slammed two Manchester United players following the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The Reds fell to their ninth loss of the Premier League season as Erik ten Hag’s side failed to mount a comeback win this time around.

Victory against Aston Villa appeared to be exactly what many thought it would be – a blip. Instead, United returned to their usual level at The City Ground.

As they ended off a dreadful year, two United players, in particular, were criticised by club legends Schmeichel and Neville.

Neville, former captain of the club, slammed the ball-playing ability of Andre Onana whilst on Sky Sports commentary. The goalkeeper is known for his ability with the ball at his feet.

When the Cameroon international sent a wayward pass into the sky, Neville was not impressed.

“Onana came with a reputation for being really good on the ball, but l just don’t think he is that good on the ball,” said Neville whilst on Sky Sports commentary. “He is so erratic.”

Meanwhile, Schmeichel has launched a scathing review of Antony’s ability. The Brazilian is yet to score or assist in all competitions this season.

The ex-goalkeeper believes that Antony knows that ‘he hasn’t got’ the pace required and his position in the team must be reconsidered.

“I really think he should rethink Antony’s position. He doesn’t give much to the team. He frustrates his teammates. It’s really frustrating. He’s had an opportunity for a long time,” Schmeichel told Super Sport.

“This is a player that hasn’t scored this season, he’s not made an assist, and he’s not scored, it’s like he’s not really understanding the game. As a winger, there are certain things you expect them to do, go into this area [the byline] and cross the ball on your right foot, but he doesn’t.

“He’s trying here, he’s trying, but he hasn’t got the pace, and he knows he hasn’t. We don’t know what the message is from the manager, he might’ve been asked to do what he’s been doing, then the manager would be responsible for no assists, no goals all of this season.”

United are sitting in seventh place, with the possibility to drop into ninth going into the new year after Sunday’s fixtures.
