Manchester United fans are fuming at Erik ten Hag’s Scott McTominay comment after the club lost 2-1 against Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.

Manchester United‘s final game of 2023 was all set to be a positive ending to what has been a turbulent year for the club, but a poor performance from Erik ten Hag‘s men spoilt the party.

While many were looking forward to the fixture after United’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday evening, United suffered a 2-1 loss away to Nottingham Forest in their final fixture of the year.

The loss has left them seventh in the Premier League table at the halfway point of the campaign.

During the game, Ten Hag decided to substitute Kobbie Mainoo in favour of Scott McTominay, with many blaming the Scot’s poor decision-making as a reason for Forest’s second goal of the night, but Ten Hag disagreed.

“Scott [McTominay] brought energy, I think the second half was much better on our side,” Ten Hag said at full-time. “The first goal, when you analyse it well, has nothing to do with the midfield.

“The second goal came from poor communication.”

This comment has not settled well with United fans, who have made their thoughts clear after the fixture on social media platform X.

Manchester United do not play again until 8 January, when they will visit Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup. Six days later, they will then welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford in the Premier League.
