“I expect…” – Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United’s plans for second 2026 signing after Cristian Orozco

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Manchester United’s plans for a second signing in 2026 after Cristian Orozco agreed to join the club.

Manchester United have had a difficult start to the new season and many of their issues seem to come from the poor midfield structure.

The Reds had a solid transfer window in the summer – signing the likes of Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo – but they ignored the middle of the park.

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are the regular starters in those positions while Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo provide cover. There needs to be improvements made.

It has recently been confirmed that United have secured the signing of Cristian Orozco, a Columbian youth prospect who plays at the base of midfield.

United have been aiming to bring in top talents in recent years and Orozco is the latest example of that approach. The likes of Sekou Kone and Diego Leon were also recently brought to the club.

Orozco will officially sign for United in 2026 but the 17-year-old is not expected to immediately solve any issues in Ruben Amorim’s first-team.

Instead, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Reds are going to make an ‘important’ midfield signing alongside Orozco next year.

“Yes, Orozco is for the future. I expect Man United to bring in new important midfielder in 2026,” the Italian journalist wrote in his GiveMeSport column.

United must address midfield problems

Whether in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation or another manager’s 4-3-3, United need improvements in midfield either way.

There must be an effort to get Mainoo playing his best football as well, with the Academy graduate at his best as the no.8 in a three-man midfield.

Players like Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton have been linked with a move to Old Trafford and that is the calibre of player needed at the club.

For once, it would be nice to see United focus on improving the engine room in a transfer window, and solve it for the long-term.
