Ruben Amorim has delivered a concerning update on Mason Mount’s injury after the Manchester United midfielder suffered a setback against Manchester City last weekend.

Mason Mount suffered another injury setback after coming on in the first half of the Manchester Derby last weekend.

The midfielder looked emotional as he was forced off the pitch after an extremely tough time at Manchester United so far with injury issues.

He has missed 30 games through injury for United since his summer move from Chelsea in 2023 and that inconsistency has also led to him being on the bench a lot of the time as he tries to reach full fitness.

Ruben Amorim is clearly a big fan of the 25-year-old, who has previously excelled in a very similar system during his time working with Thomas Tuchel.

“Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid,” smiled Amorim shortly after joining the club. “You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.”

However, the latest injury setback seems like it will put any progress from Mount on hold for several weeks.

How serious is Mason Mount’s injury

Following the 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night, Amorim was asked about Mount’s situation as he was not included in the squad.

The United boss admitted that Mount’s injury will keep him out of action for several weeks

“For several weeks, I don’t know the exact date but it’s going to be for long and that’s it,” the 39-year-old said. “It is part of football and we continue.”

United have a busy fixture list over the Christmas period, with games against Bournemouth, Wolves, Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal on the horizon. But it seems unlikely that Mount will be available to help the team.

Amorim explains difficulty behind Man Utd injuries

United have been suffering with injuries for a long while now and at the moment it is not too bad, but several players are struggling to sustain their fitness after injuries.

Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelöf and Mount have all suffered setbacks shortly after returning to fitness and Amorim says that this is a result of the squad being unable to train properly at Carrington.

Due to the fixture schedule, Amorim’s squad are unable to ‘recreate’ game situations for these players before they return to the pitch, which seems to be contributing to their setbacks.

The head coach also reiterated his support to these players and said that he will support them to the end as long as they work hard.

“That is not my department. What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game,” responded Amorim when asked how he fixes these reoccurring injuries.

“When he is recovering, [we] will try to use that time to think in different things and then the worst part is that we don’t have time to train like we should do.

“When you are recovering from a lot of injuries, we are always travelling and we have games, trainings without all the team together – this is really hard to recreate the game before they come to the game.

“You can see with Vic [Lindelöf]… Vic was recovering, training really well, we push him, we make all of the sprints that he should do before he comes to a game. But the game is a completely different world.

“So they have to have more time to train, it’s really hard and we try to manage that with rotation but even with rotation it’s really hard to have all the squad.

“With Mason Mount, we are going to help him, it’s really hard for the player to be out for so long and he’s trying really hard, the same as Antony. If they try really hard, we will them until the end.”
