Manchester United legend Gary Neville has heavily criticised an “awkward” Manchester United star after his performance against Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United were looking to extend their three-game winning run to four when they visited the City Ground on Saturday afternoon, but Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest came back from a one-goal deficit to draw 2-2.
Rúben Amorim’s side broke the deadlock early on with a superb header from Casemiro, although there have been several questions raised as to whether United should’ve had the corner that led to the first goal of the game.
While United dominated the majority of the first half, Forest came out quick for the second 45 and scored two goals inside the opening six minutes. Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona caught the United defence off guard with two goals inside the penalty area.
Amad rescued a point for United in the latter stages of the game. After a corner, the ball bounced free to the Ivorian on the edge of the box, and he converted with brilliant technique. Just a few minutes later, Amad nearly scored another left-footed volley, but Murillo made a brilliant goal-line clearance to keep the score at 2-2.
Despite a promising away showing from United, Gary Neville has heavily criticised one United star for his performance against Forest.
Neville slams Šeško for Forest display
Benjamin Šeško led the line against Dyche’s side, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo supporting from attacking midfield. The Slovenian failed to make a real impact on the game despite a promising start to the match.
Speaking to NBC Sports after the 2-2 draw, former United right-back Gary Neville said: “I’m no further forward with him [Šeško]. The jury is out.
“He’s well off it compared to the other summer signings that Man United made up front in Cunha and Mbeumo. He looks awkward, he had a couple of really good opportunities in the first half when balls got played over the top and his touch wasn’t quite right.
“For 80 million pound, you can say he’s young, has a lot of potential and is only just settling in, but you still want to see a bit more.”
Šeško has scored two goals and registered one assist in his 11 appearances for United since joining from RB Leipzig, but has shown signs of the high-potential player Jason Wilcox signed. Šeško will need to improve soon or risk being compared to Rasmus Hojlund, who joined the club under similar circumstances under Erik ten Hag.
Amorim should revert to original attacking trio
At the start of the season, with Šeško only just through the door, Mason Mount started alongside Cunha and Mbeumo. The former Wolves attacker led the line, while Mount and Mbeumo played just behind.
Amorim’s love for Mount is well known – famously saying: “I love that kid” when he first joined the club – and he has already shown his class this season.
Against Tottenham Hotspur, Amorim should revert to the Mount, Cunha, Mbeumo trio that began the season and give Šeško a break from the starting lineup.
While the Slovenian is impressive in moments, the constant criticism won’t be beneficial, so taking him out of the spotlight could be good for his long-term development.
