Ole Gunnar Solskjær has picked the two Manchester United stars from his time as the manager who would have thrived during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
During his time as the Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær won 91 matches, whilst also drawing 37 and losing 40, which saw his side achieve back-to-back top-three finishes.
As well as this, the Norwegian managed his side to a 29-game unbeaten streak away from home in the Premier League, which is the longest in English top-flight history.
Not only was Solskjær a successful manager at the club, but he was also instrumental to much of the club’s success when he was a player, amassing 366 games for the side.
The baby-faced assassin’s time as a United player was during the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson. Solskjær has recently spoken about which current Red Devils would have survived under Ferguson’s management.
Solskjær names two United stars
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, the former United striker spoke alongside Gary Neville and Roy Keane to discuss which current United stars would have thrived during their time at the club.
He said, “Well, for me, I can only speak about the ones that I’ve worked with. And you look at Bruno [Fernandes], he’d survive, he’d fight you probably, and definitely you [Neville and Keane] and Harry [Maguire], I’m sure Harry would survive, definitely.”
It is no surprise that Solskjær picked both the current United captain as well as the former United captain, as they were both key figures during his reign at the club.
Both of these players have also survived the management of both Erik Ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, whilst many others have gone on to new pastures, which further highlights their importance within the squad.
United’s improved mentality
Although not much can be said for United’s squad in recent years when it comes to its overall work-rate and mentality, it appears that they are regaining their mentality of old.
Regarding the club’s summer signings, although it is only early days in their spells at Old Trafford, their work rates cannot be questioned.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha would both be players that Ferguson would surely have loved, given their excellent ability as well as their hard-working mentalities.
Not only the two new attackers, but also Senne Lammens, between the sticks, has already earned the respect of many United legends, which suggests that he’d fit in perfectly in the Sir Alex era.
